Tressie Banton Potts, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was a native of Newport News and a resident of Poquoson for years. Since the age of 15 she was a hairdresser and operated her own shop. Her hobbies and interests included being drawn to all types of fashion, arts and crafts, and enjoyed a good game of cards.

Preceding her in rest are her husbands, Vernon Banton, Oliver Smiley, and Dick Potts; son, Howard Garland Banton; parents, Guilford and Iola Toler; sisters, Zelva Saunders, and Athelia Payne. Surviving members of her family include her children, Ilene B. Winder, Sarah B. Sprouse, Cynthia B. Price, Peggy S. Rusher, and Gil Colon who was like a son; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; cousin/sister, Peggy Farmer; and loyal and devoted furry companion, Litty Potts.

The family will receive friends Friday morning from 11:00 to 12:00 at Peninsula Funeral Home. A service celebrating Tressie's life will be held at 12:00 PM following the visitation. Interment will be held Monday morning at 11:00, February 4, 2019 in Peninsula Memorial Park.
