Stephen Hamilton Solmes, (age 70), went home to be with his Lord on January 25, 2019, at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of Cherie Solmes. They shared 9 years of marriage.
Born in Henderson, Kentucky, on January 1, 1949, he was the son of Walter Howard Solmes and Ida Marie Hamilton Solmes. He attended Indiana University where he majored in Philosophy and Religious Studies. He was employed by vAuto of Cox Industries as a Performance Manager.

When he was 5 years old, his older brother Marcus helped him trust Jesus Christ as his Savior, and Stephen grew up with a deep love for his Lord and His Word. He founded and pastored the Church of Glad Tidings in Bedford, Indiana; and later he pastored Calvary Chapel in Butler, Indiana. Through the years, he was often asked to preach and sing in many churches around the country. Here in Texas, from 2008, he led the “Single Purpose” Adult Bible Study and from August 2018 was the leader for the “Singles 50+ Gathering” of Hill Country Bible Church in Austin, TX. He enjoyed a variety of activities including playing golf, playing the piano, singing, and attending the sports activities of his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Granddude”. He was a voracious reader, a sports fanatic, and he loved all things car-related. He was also a wordsmith, known for his clever puns and one-liners.

He will be remembered for his quick wit, his snazzy socks, his love of Southern gospel music, his extensive knowledge of the Scriptures, and his commitment and dedication to his Savior and to his wife and family.

He was predeceased by his parents, and by his brothers Matthew and Kemuel.
He is survived by his wife Cherie, children Kammi (Albert) Contreras of Round Rock, TX; Joshua Solmes of St. Leon, IN; stepchildren Scott (Natalie) Glasgow of Lee’s Summit, MO; Jay Neely of Boone, NC; and Amy (Brad) Warnock of Cedar Park, TX; 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; and brother Marcus (Joann) Solmes of Vestaburg, MI.
The visitation will be held Tuesday evening, January 29th, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Beck Funeral Home, 1700 E. Whitestone Blvd., Cedar Park, TX 78613. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, January 30th, at 10:00 A.M. at Hill Country Bible Church, 12124 Ranch Road 620 N., Austin, TX 78750. Burial service will immediately follow at Cook-Walden Capital Parks in Pflugerville, TX.
