Retired Battalion Chief, CCFD, George Samuel Powers, age 68 of McDonough, GA, beloved husband for over 32 ½ years to Denise J. Lawhon Powers, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019.

Loving father of Luke Powers (Melissa), Jason Powers (Pam) and Katrina Lee (David). He is also survived by grandchildren: Rachel, Shawn, Jake, Jessie, Alexis, two great-grandchildren, his siblings, Linda (Kevin), Mike (Juanita) and Judy, three god-sons, Matthew, Shane and Chad, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, loving family and friends.

He was a retiree from Clayton County Fire Department, serving over 33 ½ years. He was also affectionately known as “Santa Claus” for many years. He was proud of the time that he was able to bring joy and laughter to children he met across the country as Santa Claus.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home, 376 Fairview Road Stockbridge, GA 30281. A graveside service will immediately follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens, 164 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, GA 30281, with Rev. Alex Lawhon, officiating.
