Caroline Gene Vaile BURROW Age 92, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died peacefully May 26, 2007 at the home of her children in Richland, Washington after a brief illness. Caroline was born in August 1914 in Monte Vista, Colorado to Irma and Dewitt Clinton Vaile. She moved with her family at the age of ten to Seattle and grew up there, graduating from Broadway High School in 1931. Caroline continued her education at the University of Washington. In 1935, she met her beloved, James Barrington "JB" Burrow, a graduate of the U S Naval Academy and an Ensign serving aboard USS California (BB-44) during the ship's visit to Seattle. They were married a year later in the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority House at the U of W. Despite frequent moves throughout the continental US and Hawaii during JB's Navy career, Caroline remained ever faithful to the Emerald City and she returned to Seattle often to visit family and friends while JB was at sea. Following his retirement from the Navy in 1963, Caroline and JB settled on McGilvra Boulevard in Seattle. Caroline was preceded in death by her adoring husband of 50 years and she moved to Richland in 2004 to be with her family. Born with limited eyesight which she never considered a handicap, Caroline was a member of the Seattle Chapter of PEO for many decades and a loyal fan of the Seahawks, Mariners, and Huskies. A quiet and reserved patriot, she loved her country, was active in political debate, and remained, throughout her life, dedicated in her support of the U S Navy. Among her favorite personal pastimes, she listened to audio books and music, sampled chocolates whenever available, told only the best of jokes, and sampled the occasional martini. Known for her sense of humor, refined elegance, and gentle demeanor she leaves an everlasting sense of a loving and caring spirit who has been, in turn, loved by all who have come to touch her life. Caroline is survived by her sons, James Barrington, Jr. of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and Barry of Richland, Washington, both born in Seattle and graduates of the U S Naval Academy. Other family members include six grandchildren, two of whom are U of W graduates and U S Navy Aviators, and six great grandchildren. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the Children's Orthopedic Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at Acacia Memorial Park, 14951 Bothell Way NE, Seattle on June 1, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.
