William F. Delancey (also spelled Delancy) was a resident of Delhi, Iowa, when he enlisted 8 Oct 1883 at the age of 19 years. He mustered in Co B 4th Iowa Cavalry 8 Oct 1863 and mustered out 8 Aug 1865 at Atlanta, Georgia.

Census records also confirm the year of his birth as 1844; 1850 Manchester Township, Morgan County, Ohio taken 20 Sept 1850, age 6; 1856 Iowa State Census, South Fork Township, Delaware County, age 11; 1860 Prairie Creek Township, Dubuque County, Iowa taken 16 Aug 1860, age 16; 1870 Hazel Green Township, Delaware County, Iowa taken 29 Jul 1870, age 25 (only one that is inconsistent, household of step-father); 1900 Jackson Township, Linn County, Iowa taken 7 June 1900, born May 1844; 1910 Coggon, Linn County, Iowa taken 18 Apr 1910, age 65 (taken before date of birth in May).
