Early Life: Archie was born September 24, 1931, in Garfield, Utah, to Archie Ray and Ruth Isabella Brown Smith.
Life’s Work | Service | Interests: On July 2, 1953, he was married to Barbara Jean Christensen. Together, they had three children. Archie was a graduate of Brigham Young University with a B.S. in geology and mathematics in 1957 and a Master of Public Administration in 1983. He served in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1976, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Following his retirement from the Navy, Archie worked for 12 years at the Utah Geological and Mineral Survey in various leadership positions. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Archie and Barbara served a full-time mission from 1996 to 1998 in Scotland. He also served for 12 years as an ordinance worker in the Provo Utah Temple. Archie Duane Smith, of Provo, Utah, died of natural causes at his home on January 16, 2019. He was 87.
Survived By: His wife, Barbara; his three children: Brenda (Giovanni) Tata, Kalen Sidney Smith, and Micah Shaun Smith; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Preceded In Death By: His parents, five siblings and a grandson.
