Barbara Ann “BB” Beck, 88, of the Old Athens Road, Princeton died peacefully late Saturday evening, January 19, 2019 at her home. Born December 7, 1930, in Martinsville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Homer Allen Croom and Ida Mae Coleman Croom. Barbara was educated in Martinsville, VA, and had attended James Madison University. While her health permitted, she was a devoted and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Princeton where she had taught Sunday school and served on various committees throughout the life of the church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Barbara had a passion for cooking, having taught cake decorating and at one time had made a quilt for Sharon Rockefeller. She was an author, having written 3 books on genealogy for several families. Barbara had a quest for knowing what was going on in the world, she loved listening and watching the news, keeping abreast with current affairs. While confined to home, she loved watching the birds feed and play. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Andrew Jackson “Jack” Beck, the love of her life. Those left to cherish her memory, her two children; Andrew Allen Beck of Tazewell VA; Paige Marie Beck and husband Jack Jacobs of Gainesville, FL; One granddaughter, Coen Elizabeth Beck; Two step- grandchildren, Jaclyn and Corinne Jacobs. Her only sibling, Homer Allen Croom II and wife Freeda,; Nephew, Homer Allen “Trip” Croom III; Two very special caregivers, Tammy Williams and Brenda Meadows. Services to celebrate and reflect on a life well lived will be held at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, January 24, 2019 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Dr. David Dockery and Gary Linkous speaking. Graveside services will be held on Friday 1:00 P.M. at the Oakwood Cemetery in Martinsville, VA. A time of sharing will be held Thursday from 3:00 P.M. until the service hour. The family has requested in remembrance of “BB” that you please place a bird feeder in your yard in her honor. The Beck family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
