Darlene L. Jepsen, 96, of Wakonda, South Dakota, formerly of Meckling, passed away Friday, January 18, 2019 at Wakonda Heritage Manor in Wakonda.
Darlene was born November 18, 1922 in Meckling to Clark & Clarissa (Myron) Larson. She attended and graduated from Meckling High School in 1940.
She married LaVerne Jepsen on December 14, 1940. To this marriage, they had four daughters, Diane, Joan, Jeanette, and Cheryl. They farmed in Meckling area for a while before she got jobs in town. She worked for Austin Diary, Dean Pak and the City. She also was the secretary for State Farmers Union. Later years, they bought a gas station in Gayville. She started cooking for her brother's business, Toby's Lounge in Meckling for 35 years until she moved to Wakonda.
Darlene lived her life to fullest. She loved music. She played piano for her church and was always singing up at the "Home". She was very active with her church and "Hay Days" in Gayville. She loved taking pictures and baking for her family.
Survivors include her three daughters, Joan (Ron) Huot of Centerville, Jeanette Hauge of Racine, WI, and Cheryl Peterson of Beresford; 13 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Nelsen, and Marilyn Kaiser; three sisters-in-law, Beverly Johnson, Dolly Larson, and Lavonne Jepsen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, LaVerne, her daughter, Diane Sorenson; three sons-in-law, Paul Larson, Roger Hauge, and LuVerne Sorenson; one great-grandson, Jason; two brothers, Verlyn and Toby Larson.
