Helen Louise Thomas Gregory, age 89, left this world and went to her Heavenly home on Thursday, January 17, 2019. She was born on April 17, 1929 in Chilhowie VA to the late David and Della Louise McVey Thomas. She was a woman of strong faith and looked forward to the eternal life she knew awaited her. She was a lifelong resident of Glade Spring, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Henry Gregory of 47 years; her son Archie Gregory; her sisters Sara Miller and Mattie Isbell; and her son-in-law Lonnie “Butch” Marshall.
She is survived by her daughters, Louise Marshall of Glade Spring, VA, Barbara Scott and husband Ronald, of Glade Spring, VA; sons, Henry “ Sonny” Gregory and wife Linda of Abingdon, VA, and George Gregory and wife Sharon of Jonesborough TN; sisters, Betty Lewis of Beaufort, SC, Sylvia Jean Smith of Meadowview, VA; brother, James “Bro” Thomas and wife June of Glade Spring, VA; six grandchildren, Trenton Gregory and wife Barri, Melissa Smithson and husband Mark Smithson, Dean Gregory, Angela Marshall and boyfriend Joshua West, Michelle Hall and fiancé Chad Adkins, Mark Gregory; her pride and joy, 11 great grandchildren, Landon Smithson, Hope McClain, Amber Smithson, Dylan Marshall, Cheyenne Rosenbaum, MaKayla Hall, Emma Hall, Marcus Gregory, Madison Gregory, Maranda Gregory, and Bailey Gregory; seven great-great-grandchildren, Mathew McClain, Shaley McClain, Corbin McClain, Caden Boord, Brooklyn Roberts, Bently Gregory; special niece Debra Gobble; several nieces and nephews.
Helen was a remarkable mother and grandmother whose passion was her family and her faith in God. She was always there for her family. Her love and devotion provided a loving, safe and secure home where unconditional love was always a certainty. She was a compassionate and giving person who put the needs of others before her own and she will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Helen was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy. She loved reading her Bible and listening to Southern Gospel and traditional hymns.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at the Henderson Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Medford and Rev. Gary Jonas officiating. The Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, at Mount Rose Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service.
