Byron Joseph Brewer, 93, of Columbus, NC, passed away January 11, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital.

Born in Stoughton, WI, son of the late William J "Will" and Elsie Gullikson Brewer.

Moved to Chicago, IL, as a young boy; joined the Army as a Medic, serving for two years during the last part of World War II as part of the army of occupation forces in Germany; and graduated from Northwestern University with a BS in Business.

Married his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Kell on April 6, 1951 in Cuyahoga, OH; moved to Tryon, NC in 1953; worked for Milliken for 35 years.

Member of Tryon Presbyterian Church, served as an elder; sang in the choir for 65 years; sang in the Community Chorus from its inception until 2017 and was the treasurer and crew chief for Thermal Belt Habitat with 35 years of service.

Survived by his wife, Betty; son, Paul (Stacey); daughters, Emily (Rick), Lenore (Bruce) and Virginia Baird; blessed with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by his brothers, Bill and Darrell Brewer.

Memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Tryon Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to the Music Ministry of Tryon Presbyterian Church, 430 Harmon Field Road, Tryon NC 28782
