Erma Jean Jones, age 74 of York, Alabama, passed away on January 22, 2018 at Rush Foundation Medical Center, Meridian, Mississippi. She was born in York, Alabama on May 6, 1943 to Walter and Lilly Bell McCorkle.

Jean gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Eastern Star Baptist Church, York, Alabama by Rev. C.B. Coolie. She has been a faithful member of Eastern Star where she severed in several capacities including the Matrons, the choir, the Kitchen Committee, Sunday School teacher, and Assistant Sunday School Superintendent.

Jean was a devoted mother, family member, community leader and friend. She lived her life working, serving and caring for others. She graduated from Sumter County Training School in York, AL and was employed throughout her life. After retiring from the Bank of York, Jean never stopped working and serving. She was a devoted Substitute Teacher for the Sumter County Board of Education for many years and a loyal member of the Busy Bee Club. She was currently an elected official, serving her 2nd term as a member of the York City Council.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter DeAndra, her grandmother Erma McCorkle, and her sisters Chalonde M. Rembert and Celestine Jones.
She leaves five sibling; seven children; 15 grandchildren; six great-grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Friday evening, January 26, 2018 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Weatherly Funeral Home Chapel, 1575 E Fourth Avenue, York, Alabama.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Eastern Star Baptist Church, 112 Curl Road, York, Alabama with Rev. Charles H. Delaine officiating. Sister Jones will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral service. Interment to follow at Elmwood Memorial Gardens, Highway 11 East, York, Alabama.
