Samuel and Mary G. Watt were married by Rev. Peck at the Church of the Ascension in Baltimore, Maryland on 13 September 1840. They had seven children, all born in Baltimore City.

The family lived in Baltimore for several decades, but they eventually moved to Washington D. C., where Samuel's younger brother, Matthew Gault Emery, resided.
Samuel died of heart disease and was initially interred at Congressional, after funeral services at the Metropolitan M. E. Church. He was moved to Rock Creek Cemetery on June 30th, 1891.
