Mrs. Clara Louise (Howton) Stephens, resident of Wynne, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro, Arkansas, at the age of 83. She was born in Cherry Valley, Arkansas, on Sunday, June 2, 1935, the daughter of Mr. Donnie Howton and Mrs. Essie Alma (Taylor) Howton.

Clara and Mr. Herman “Wayne” Stephens were united in marriage on July 24, 1953, and of this union two children were born, Gary and Sherry. Mrs. Stephens was a member of Vanndale Baptist Church, and worked many years for Halstead (Mueller) in Wynne. She enjoyed time spent working in her garden and cooking for her family. Mrs. Stephens loved caring for her grandchildren.

Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James Howton; two sisters, Dorothy Boyles and Essie Mason; and a great-grandson, Bailey Stockton Barton.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Wayne Stephens; a son, Gary Stephens and wife, Susan, of Cherry Valley; a daughter, Sherry Stephens-Barton and husband, Jim, of Gentry; two sisters, Juanita Davis of Nesbit, Mississippi; and Johnnie Mann of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Crosslawn Cemetery in Wynne with Brother Stewart Brooks officiating.

Friends may visit at the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m., prior to the service.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Brian Barton, Casey Shelley, Brandon Stephens, Brett Stephens, Kaylen Stephens, and Kade Stephens. Honorary pallbearer is Jeremy Meredith.
