Austin Lee Mays
FRANKTON -- Austin Lee Mays, 64, of Frankton, died Nov. 14, 2003. at his home, where he was surrounded by his family and friends.
Austin was born Aug. 27, 1939, in Elwood, the son of Denver and Netina (Stahl) Mays. He married Linda Nicholson Jan. 17, 1960.
He was a self-employed farmer and drove a school bus for the Frankton-Lapel School Corporation for 40 years. He attended Purdue University. He was a member of the Frankton Christian Church, the Elwood Elks Lodge and the Frankton Lions Club. He loved going to the Frankton restaurant for coffee where he would turn the lights on in the morning. He loved his family and friends. Austin also loved to fish and bowl. He was a lifelong resident of Madison County.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Mays of Frankton; a son, Michael and wife, Sheni Mays of Pittsboro; a daughter, Lisa and husband, Chris Hansen of Greenfield; two brothers, Jerry and wife, Gloria Mays of Elwood and Joe and wife, Ernestine Mays of Elwood; grandchildren, Conner Edward Hansen, Calista Leigh Mays and Josie Frances Mays; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Frankton Christian Church, with the Rev. Alvin Covell of the Frankton Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the K of P & IOOF Cemetery in Frankton. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Harper & Dunni-chay Funeral Home in Frank-ton. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the 'Dollars for Scholars" scholarship program.
