Janis Jo (Kissner) Miller, 75, Bloomington, IN passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Auburn Village, Auburn, IN.

She was born June 17, 1943, the daugher of John Sr. and Josephine (Vanick) Kissner.

On June 20, 1980, she married Robert C. Miller, who died in August 2017.

Janis was a graduate of Defiance High School and Ohio University. She worked as a Journalist and Editor for several newspapers. She taught at Ivy Tech College and was Public Relations Director at Saint Francis College in Ft. Wayne. She later worked as Executive Director of Isaac Knapp Dental Association and Administered the Indiana University Dental School Sealant Program in Indianapolis, IN.

She is survived by 5 daughters, Jana Lea (Berry) Lindemeyer, Kristi (Dan) Lewark, Jill (Curt) Stewmon, Wendy (Daren) Sherbondy and Jami (Doug) Settle; four sisters, Suzanne Lenhart of Angola, IN, Patricia Cook of Whitehouse, OH, Marnie Johnson of Grand Rapids, OH and Mary Miller of Addison, MI; sister-in-law, Rita Kissner of Defiance, OH; and a brother, Joe Kissner of Toledo, OH; and 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, John Kissner Jr., and two sisters in infancy.

Jan was a beautiful soul. She was the Matriarch of the family and was strong, wise and always kind to everyone she encountered. She was admired by many for her beautiful writing skills and gracious spirit. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, mentor and friend.

There will be no visitation. Services will be at 11 am on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at St. Michael’s Ridge Catholic Church, 05480 Moser Road, Defiance, Ohio with Father John Stites officiating. A Memorial in Jan’s honor is planned for this summer.

Preferred memorials are to The American Cancer Society or The American Dental Association.
