Robert C. (Bob) Miller, 77, of Bloomington left this life on Wednesday, August 9, 2017.
Born on December 31, 1939, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he was the son of Carlus Earl and Lula Estella (Adams) Miller. Bob was a 1958 graduate of Hoagland (IN) High School, where he excelled as a class leader and athlete. He received the Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1964 from Ball State University, majoring in business and lettering in gymnastics. Later, he worked toward a master’s degree in psychology at Saint Francis University, Fort Wayne, and at Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne (IPFW). On June 19, 1980, he married Jan (Kissner) Cady in Fort Wayne.
Bob was an inspirational teacher and coach at Columbia City (IN) High School and Churubusco (IN) High School. While building beautiful homes, he challenged his Building Trades students to become men and taught them a sense of the appropriate. He coached varsity boys’ golf to several championships, girls’ varsity basketball and freshman boys’ basketball. Prior to teaching, he was an admissions counselor and coach at Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne and a salesman for both State Farm and Pan American Life Insurance. He enjoyed golf and was a member of Eagle Pointe Golf Club. A skilled craftsman and artist, he loved restoring wooden boats, making wine, and entertaining countless friends and random strangers with his storytelling.
He is survived by his wife Jan Miller of Bloomington; five daughters, Kristi (Mrs. Dan) Lewark, Wendy (Mrs. Daren) Sherbondy and Jami (Mrs. Doug) Settle, all of Fort Wayne, Jill (Mrs. Curtis) Stewmon of Navarre, FL, and Jana Lea Cady (Mrs. Berry) Lindemeyer of Bloomington; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Janice (Mrs. Don) Lehrman of Monroeville, IN, and Karen (Mrs. Dale) Bowman of Friedens, PA, and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Norma Guenin.
