Lewis D. Duggins, the son of Joseph Duggins and Mary Hargis Bozorth, was born in Grayson County, Kentucky in 1850. Other records show his name as Louis D. Duggins. His paternal grandparents were Vincent Duggins and 1/w Nancy Darnell. His maternal grandparents were Jeremiah Bozorth and 2/w Sarah Grieves. His great grandfather, Jonathan Bozorth, served as a Private from Sepember 1776 to September 1779 with the 8th Pennsylvania Continental Line during the Revolutionary War.

Lewis D. Duggins was the husband of Sarah G. Haycraft, the daughter of Andrew Jackson Haycraft and Diadama "Damie" Burnett. They were married shortly after the 1870 Census of the Leitchfield Precinct in Grayson County. By the 1880 census of Short Creek they were the parents of: Henry Price, age 7, Jackson, age 6, William R., age 2, and Joseph T., age 1. Their daughter Olive was born on June 30, 1875. She does not appear in the 1880 census. Children born after 1880 were Herman in 1881, Hardy B. in 1883, and Cladis H. in 1887.

Lewis D. Duggins died in Grayson County at the age of 80 on November 18, 1930. He was buried in the Taylor Cemetery near Leitchfield, Kentucky. His widow Sarah joined him there after her death at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 21 days on March 19, 1935.
