Obituary of Lawrence Van Clark

Lawerence Van Clark was born at North Platte, Nebraska, December 28, 1889, to David H. Clark and Rosa E. Clark. He was the eldest of 14 children.

He came into Jackson Hole, under the rodeo name of Charlie Steele. Here he started a career of riding and roping that was to be a big part of his life.

Lawerence was married to Jessie Mabel Shinkle Jan. 1, 1913. To them eight children were born. He lived a happy life doing the things that he knew best. He could always take the hardships with a smile. His philosophy was, "It's always darkest before daylight."

Lawerence always had a love for the great out-of-doors and Jackson Hole. His thoughts were always for the mountains, the streams, and the trails that he knew so well. In this field his knowledge was supreme.

He loved fine horses and good cattle. The old timers will recall Lawerence as a top rider and top hand. Many of his last thoughts were of his old friends and the long trails they rode together. For him we pray that this is the most wonderful trip of all.
