Kathleen Pauline Worth Rushing, 80, of 133 West Island Trail, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton.

Mrs. Rushing was born in Douglas, Ga. and was the daughter of the late Monroe Williby and Rowena Blanks Worth.

A retired office manager of the family owned roofing business, she had served as President of the Women's Christian Fellowship of Holiday Island, was Secretary of the Monday Night Fun Seekers (Bowling team), and was a board member of the Holiday Island Property Owners Association.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Clark Carter; her son, Robert Sanford Clark Jr.; and by her sister, Frances Worth Landing.

Surviving are her husband, James Melvin Rushing; eight daughters, Linda Clark Frye and husband, Bill, Patricia Clark James, Evelyn Fay "Scoot" Rushing, and Angela Rushing Preble and husband, Richard, all of Hertford, Sharon Clark Tyler and husband, Billy, of Portsmouth, Va., Donna Clark Moore and husband, John, of Chesapeake, Va., and Wendy Rushing Goff and Pamela Kay Rushing, both of Louisville, Ky.; three heart-children, Jessica Georgette Ghose, April Ghose Jackson, and Bryson Robert Ghose Jr., all of Hertford; a son-in-law, Otis Carter of Alabama; a sister, Jenny Worth Deaver and husband, Buddy, of Chesapeake; 29 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Chapel on the Sound and will be officiated by Kenneth Ries. The graveside burial service will follow at 4 p.m. that afternoon at Rosewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Virginia Beach. Friends may join the family today from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family to assist with medical and other related expenses.
