Gary Newman, 71 years, of Peebles, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at the Pleasant Hill Care Center, in Piketon, Ohio.

Gary was born in Peebles, Ohio, on October 12, 1946, the son of the late Coleman and Lucille (Grooms) Newman. After his service in the United States Air Force, Gary worked for the Ohio Valley School District, and was a local business owner. Gary was an active member of the Peebles United Methodist Church.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Harry and Jane McAdow; three sisters, Orpha Rae Fultz, Carolyn McAllister, and Phyllis Smalley; and a half-brother, Eldon Newman. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte McAdow Newman, whom he married on August 27, 1988; three sons, Gary Bret (Jill) Newman, of West Virginia; David (Wendy) Cheesbro, of Kentucky; and Michael (Ashlee) Cheesbro, of Peebles; and two daughters, Kimberly Setty, of Kentucky; and Laura (Ryan) Mountjoy, of Peebles. Gary also leaves behind two brothers, Norman (Pat) Newman and Tom (Kathy) Newman, and a sister, Marilyn Waddell, all of Peebles; two brothers-in-law, John (Heidi) McAdow and Jim (Debbie) McAdow; and a sister-in-law, Mary (Chris) Reed. Gary’s passing will be mourned by his seven grandsons and granddaughter, Trevor Setty, Treg Setty, Gary Coleman Newman, James Ray Newman, Luke Cheesbro, Jacob Cheesbro, Lincoln Mountjoy, and Roewan Cheesebro. Gary will be dearly missed by his many friends, acquaintances, and church family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 16, 2018, at the Peebles United Methodist Church, in Peebles, Ohio. The ceremony will be officiated by Dave Hilgeman and Steve Zinser. Burial will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday evening, April 15, 2018, at the Peebles United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Peebles United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 247, Peebles, Ohio 45660.
