James Hubert Dickinson Jr. of Tilden, TX, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the age of 94. He was born in Tilden to Josie Mae Wheeler Dickinson & James H. Dickinson on December 17, 1924.

"Jay" graduated from Tilden High School in 1941 and went to a mechanical trade school. He joined the army in April of 1945, and served in the Pacific Theater. After the service to his country, Jay came back home and opened his own service station & repair shop. Jay was always eager to help locals as well as stranded motorists. He unwillingly retired from work at age 91 due to health issues.

Earlier in life, Jay loved to build "hot rods" and run up and down the roads with his friends. He spent his life at the garage inspecting vehicles and helping so many get back on the road.

Jay was a wonderful father and loving grandfather and great grandfather. He loved going to the ranch and as he would say, "feed the critters." He had deer eating out of his hands and rabbits that would run to meet him while he fed. He enjoyed driving his backhoe, grubbing out brush, and digging watering holes for the wild animals.

Jay served as an usher for Three Rivers First United Methodist church for 28 years. He received the "Discipleship Award" in February of 2004; something of which he was very proud.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, his son, James Curtiss Dickinson, and 2 brothers. Jay is survived by his loving wife, Betty Reynolds Dickinson, his son Lester H. Dickinson & wife Judy, his daughter-in-law, Vicki Dickinson Strike, 2 grandchildren, Dr. James Ryan Dickinson, and wife Christy, Megan Dickinson Malis, and husband Major Christopher Malis, and 4 great grandchildren, Sebastian & Asher Malis, and Wally & Eugene Dickinson.

Visitation will be conducted in State Room B at the Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be at the First United Methodist Church of Three Rivers, on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 10:00 am, followed by interment at the Hilltop Cemetery in Tilden.
