Betty was born to the late Haskell and Mary Short Stillwell of Stanley, Va. Surviving are her loving husband, Joseph P. McKnight; a beloved daughter, Victoria Dawn Louderback, of Harrisonburg, Va.; a brother, Jerry Stillwell (Elaine) of Stanley; stepsisters, Brenda Gochenour (J.H.) and Lisa Barlow (Tim), all of Luray. Survivors also include numerous nieces and nephews, her cat Booboo, and special friends, Laura Chew and Lynñe Rhodes.
In addition to her parents, Jane was predeceased by sisters, Jean Williams Henry, and Margie Ann Stillwell, as well as her father-in-law, Bill McKnight.
Betty Jane was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grove Hill.
Jane had such a zest for life and was just as comfortable chatting with a stranger as a dear friend. Her pleasant smile and kind heart earned her so many friends. Her family meant the world to her. Betty could be found at auctions and sometimes yard sales in the summer, and any and all department stores where she could be found browsing each and every aisle as did not want to miss a thing. She loved flowers and loved to cook for family and friends. Whether you were looking for a particular cooking pan, a certain color of towels, or had broken a piece of your china and wanted so badly to find a replacement, then Jane was your go-to person. She never forgot what someone may be looking for, and given enough time she was so happy that she helped find what they had been looking for.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The burial will be private at Woodbine Cemetery.
