Loving husband, father, brother, friend and his favorite calling of all, Papa, was called home while doing what he loved and that was working on the road providing for his family.

Joe was born in Ogden Dec. 19, 1964. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1983, and married Kelli De Jarnatt on June 17, 1995.

Growing up in Ogden, Joe’s family loved him so much. Joe and his brother, Paul, were inseparable. They would sit for days telling story after story that made us all smile. He loved to tease, and he was so full of laughter. He was a big Teddy Bear. That’s who he was. I know in my heart he was greeted in heaven by his mom, Lola Garcia, and sister, Bridget Atencio, who he loved and missed very much.

Joe was a mechanic, a welder, and a millwright and worked for many different companies in many different states.

Joe, you’ve done so many amazing things, starting with becoming an instant father to Jaremy and Samantha, and you didn’t skip a beat! It was true love. Before we knew it, along came your Ninny (Mackenzee) and then it was just one breath and we were saying I do. All the while to find out our baby Bobo (Kaden) would be making his way soon. Just like that, our life had taken off. We’ve seen it all babe. People always said we should have written a book because boy do we have some stories.

I knew a piece of my heart was missing the day you didn’t come home, and I truly believe your soul helped me find you and that does give me peace. Babe, no matter how much we said we couldn’t stand each other, we both knew we couldn’t be apart. You always joked we had been together for so long because you worked out of state, but this is just too far. I’m scared to keep going, but I know you would tell me, “Don’t worry about it. It’ll all be OK.” There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to have another 26 years with you by my side.

The grand babies do make all those 26 years of our life worth it, like maybe we really didn’t mess it all up. Please come visit often when you’re not playing with your best friend Lyric. With how much love you guys shared, I know he will always have his Papa as his Guardian Angel. Keep all of our grand babies Lyric, Legacy, Carson and Gunner safe and loved and hold our new one close till it’s their time to arrive.

Well Joe Joe, I better say goodbye now, but I’ll be watching for signs to show me you’re with me. Please visit me in my dreams. I’ll always and forever be your one and only “stinks.”

Joe is survived by the love of his life: Kelli Atencio; his children: Mackenzee Dawn Atencio, Kaden Joe Atencio, Jaremy Schlickeiser and Samantha Nicole (Brandon) Coburn; his grand babies: Lyric and Legacy, Carson and Gunner; his brother: Paul (Tinka) Atencio and so many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles who loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lola Atencio and sister, Bridgette Atencio.

There will be a celebration of life Dec. 19, 2018, at the LDS Church located at 506 S. 200 E. Brigham City, Utah from 5 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at any Wells Fargo bank under Joe Atencio Memorial Fund, Utah.
