Jose “Joe” Maria Cisneros, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully at home in Fredericksburg, TX, surrounded by his family on December 20, 2018.

Joe “Pepe” was born on February 4, 1932 in Brownsville, TX. He was the 6th of 7 children born to Jose Maria and Margarita Hinojosa Cisneros, originally from “La Burrita” ranch in Mexico. His father, a merchant, owned a grocery store / gas station on 7th and Filmore St., among other businesses.
As a boy, he attended St. Joseph's Academy and later Brownsville High School, where he was active on the boxing team. He enlisted in the Air Force and served our Country during the Korean Conflict.
Joe married his high school sweetheart, Guadalupe “Lupita” Mendoza, on June 17, 1956.
The couple moved to Corpus Christi, TX where he worked for the Naval Base, and later for Pepsi Cola.
In 1970, the couple and their 2 daughters returned to Brownsville to be near family. Joe worked for the U.S. Immigration and later for Valley Trucking where he retired.
On his free time, he enjoyed tending to his numerous farm animals, carpentry projects and hosting parties for family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Guadalupe “Lupita” Mendoza Cisneros; parents, Jose Maria and Margarita H. Cisneros; beloved aunt, Gregoria “Pura” Hinojosa; brothers, Edmundo E. and Oscar P. Cisneros; and sisters, Margarita “Maggie” Montalvo and Emma C. Fangmann.

He is survived by his daughters Melissa M. Armendariz (Roy) of Round Rock, TX and Leticia M. Cisneros (Phillip) of Fredericksburg, TX; grandchildren Justin (Cassie), Jason (Kristen) and Andrea (Jacob) Armendariz; great-granddaughter Julissa E. Canales; sisters Benilde C. “Bennie” Salazar (Abel) and Hortencia C. “Tencha” Tijerina; and numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members.

Pall bearers will be Roy Armendariz, Justin Armendariz, Jason Armendariz, Joe Edmund Cisneros, Michael Cisneros and David Cisneros. Honorary pall bearers are Joe Eddie Cisneros and Hector Cisneros.

Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. and continue through 9 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2018 with the recitation of the Holy Rosary service at 6 p.m. in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home in Brownsville, TX. The funeral mass celebration will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at St Luke’s Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
