He was the son of Aurelien Bourdain (1861-1918) and Mathilde Belliard. In 1926, he immigrated to the United States from Bordeaux, France. In 1928, he married Gabrielle Riousse (1893-1966). He is the father of Pierre Bourdain (1929-1987), and the grandfather of Anthony Michael (1956-2018) and Christopher, born in 1959.
