Actor. He was best known to film viewers for his roles in both "The Thing" (1982) and "Clear and Present Danger" (1994). After completing his studies at the local King Edward VI School and serving in the British Army, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He went on to perform on the theatrical stage in both England and America, on and off Broadway throughout his career. He earned numerous nominations for his theatrical work through the years. In 1956, he made his "big screen" debut in the film "Pursuit of the Graf Spee." Besides "The Thing" and "Clear and Present Danger", he went on to appear in other films such as "Popeye" (1980), "The Right Stuff" (1983), "The Best of Times" (1986), and "The Bonfire of the Vanities" (1990). He made his television debut in 1958 on the television series "The Naked City". He went on to appear on numerous television series during his career such as "The Defenders," " Bonanza," "Ironside," "The Six Million Dollar Man," "Logan's Run," "Dallas," "Bull," and "The West Wing." He also appeared in the 1993 PBS television miniseries "Tales of the City" as the character Edgar Halcyon. He passed away from complications of a stroke.
