Enoch Billings was born in Massachusetts and moved to Vermont with his family when he was a child, living in Hartford, Swanton and Highgate. Enoch eventually bought property in Swanton and lived there for some years before removing to Sabrevois, Lower Canada in 1817.

In Canada he was a farmer in the area of Sabrevois and Clarenceville for decades and served in the militia during the Canada Rebellions of 1837-1838. Most of his children were married in Alburg, Vermont, so he seemed to have retained social ties to the area.

After retiring, Enoch and Maria Billings lived with their son John until his death in 1867, then with their youngest son Lewis in Westville, New York, the rest of their children having long since removed to the midwestern United States.

Enoch's death in Westville was recorded in the U.S. census mortality schedule of 1870. His widow likely died within a few years, and Lewis does not appear in the 1875 state census or any later records in New York. By 1879, he and his family had removed to Kansas.

The burial location for Enoch Billings remains a mystery. He likely died at Lewis's home near Fay Road in the southern end of Westville Township and would have been buried nearby. The strongest candidate is Coal Hill Cemetery, just a few hundred yards from the Billings home. Some of his 1870 neighbors are buried there as well. Church records for the town are non-existent and civil records prior to 1890 were destroyed in a fire, so his actual burial location will likely remain unknown.
