George "Joe" Bostic, age 90, of Waverly, Il. died Wednesday morning (December 19, 2018) at his residence.
He was born December 15, 1928 in Waverly, Il. son of the late John R. and Hattie Prickett Bostic.
He married Patricia Collins then later married Leta Wahlbrink who preceded him in death.
Surviving are his two sons, Robert Bostic (Cathy) and John Bostic (Judy) all of Waverly, Il.; a step-son, Robert Wahlbrink (Vickie) of Athens, Il.; a step daughter, Jeannette Moran (Doug) of Bradenton, Fl.; seven grandchildren, Travis Bostic (Brooke) of Golden, Co., Kadi Bostic (companion Abdula) of Springfield, Il., Nathaniel Bostic (Trisha) of Clinton, Il., Tyler Treat (Shellie) of O'Fallon, Il., Scott Wahlbrink (Heather) of Chatham, Il., Daniel Wahlbrink (Jennifer) of Highlands Ranch, Co. and Robby Wahlbrink of Athens, Il. thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a brother, John William Bostic (Sharon) of Chatham, Il.; a sister-in-law, Sondra Bostic of Jonesborough, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a step-son, Ronald Arthur Wahlbrink; and a brother, Thomas Russell Bostic.
Joe grew up and lived his whole life in Waverly. He was very active in the community, serving as mayor for several years as well as alderman. He was also a Boy Scout leader. He also served in the U.S. Army during Korea, deployed in Germany. Joe was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church, receiving an award for perfect Sunday school attendance. He was an active sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping especially with his sons. Joe was especially known for his produce and strawberry business locally. He was employed by Franklin Life in maintenance for 25 years and later with Illinois Department of Transportation retiring in the 1990's.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday (December 22, 2018) at Waverly First United Methodist Church in Waverly, Il. Burial will be at a later date in Waverly East Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to Waverly First United Methodist Church or Waverly Rescue Squad both c/o Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, 349 Tanner, Waverly, Il. 62692.
