Mr. Morgan was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Melvin and Ethel Hyatt Morgan. He was retired from American Enka where he worked for 42 years and he was an active member of Hominy Baptist Church.
He had been inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at the NC School for the Deaf in Morganton. Mr. Morgan had a great many loving friends and will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his wife, Julia Ray Morgan; a daughter, Lisa L. Plemmons and husband Roger of Candler; a son, Ben Morgan of Candler; two grandchildren, Cody and Colt Plemmons.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date at Hominy Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joe Yelton officiating.
