Waynesville, Arbie Melton Armstrong, 98, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of the Caney Fork Community of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late John and Arlesa Hooper Melton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Armstrong, who died in 1961; children, Dolly, Tommy and Annette Armstrong; four brothers; and six sisters. Arbie was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed cooking for her family, cleaning her home, flower gardening and surrounding herself with her grandchildren. She was one of the last if not the last WWI widows.

Arbie is survived by her daughters, JoLane Davis, of Florida and Kathey Franklin (Mike), of Waynesville; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; twenty-two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Leslie officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
