Betsy (Stous) Abernathy, 71, passed away at her home in Berryton, KS, on Thursday, December 13, 2018.

Betsy was born on January 3, 1947, in Holton, KS, to William and Evelyn (Stephenson) Stous. She graduated from Shawnee Heights in 1965. Betsy retired after 33 years from the Colmery O’Neil VA Medical Center, Topeka. She married Abe Abernathy on June 13, 1980 in Las Vegas. They were longtime members of Berryton United Methodist Church. Betsy was a longtime member of the FCE, bunko and pinochle group, and the welcome circle at her church. She loved her family which she was known as “Nanny.”

She is survived by her husband; son, Brad (Lori) Price; three step-sons, Michael, Dariel, and Thomas (Joyce) Abernathy; many grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren; and brother, Steve (Sharon) Stous.

Betsy was preceded in death by her step-son, James Abernathy; parents; brother, Richard “Dick” Stous.

A funeral ceremony will be at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018, at Berryton United Methodist Church, 7010 SE Berryton Road, Berryton, KS 66409. A private family burial will follow at Holton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave, Topeka.
