James A. Dykes, 93, of Darlington, IN, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018.

He was born on October 4, 1925 in Lebanon, IN to the late Clarence N. and Mary R. (Bowen) Dykes.

James graduated from Bowers High School in 1941. He began his undergraduate studies at Purdue University for a year before serving his country in the United States Army from 1945 to 1954. Upon his discharge from the Army, he returned to Purdue University to finish his BSCE Degree where he never received a grade less than an A. He was in Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, Iron Key, and President of the Reamer Clubs.

James married Kiyoko Kasai on November 9, 1972 in Tokyo, Japan.

James worked for the United States Government as a Civil Engineer for more than 35 years. During that time, he spent a large part of his career in Japan helping with post-war reconstruction, including 10 years working as the Base Engineer for Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan. After retiring, the family returned to the family farm in Indiana where James continued his service as a public servant for Montgomery County Schools as the Lead Principal Engineer for the construction of three new elementary schools and one new middle school.

James was a member of the New Richmond Lodge 604 F&AM and maintained his Professional Engineer License.

He enjoyed reading magazines, spending time outside, and tinkering on the farm.

Surviving are his wife; three children; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his younger brother, John W. Dykes.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 1 to 3 PM at Fisher Funeral Chapel. Services will follow at 3 PM beginning with a masonic service. Burial will be in Bethel Hill Cemetery in Thorntown, IN on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 2 PM with military honors.
