BOILER TECH SENIOR CHIEF PETTY OFFICER
John Henry Foltz Jr, 76, passed away November 21, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Village after a lengthy battle with COPD. John was born April 22, 1942, in Cheyenne, Wyoming to John Henry Foltz and Mildred (Vosler) Foltz. He grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Omaha, Nebraska and joined the Navy at 18 years old where he served for 21 years. Shortly after joining the Navy, John met his future wife Roberta while dancing at a local establishment. They married on September 23, 1967.
After retiring from the Navy, John began working as a Building Engineer at Western Bank in 1981, after Western Bank became US Bank, John continued to work there until he retired in 2002. Soon after his retirement from US Bank, John worked part-time at the Sheraton and was also a bus driver.
John played an integral role in the Sioux Falls chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous where he treasured his time with all the many friends he met and helped. John’s sobriety birthday was March 30th, 1974.
Many vacations were spent camping or hosting campgrounds in South Dakota. Times with his eleven grandchildren were especially treasured, and he did his best to spoil them every chance he got with fun toys like slinkys and fidget spinners.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 10-11:30 am with the memorial service following at 11:30am at Heritage Funeral Home.
The family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers memorials be directed to The Banquet, Feeding South Dakota or a charity of your choice.
