James Chester “Chet” Fleener, 83, a lifelong resident of Martinsville, passed peacefully from this life at 6:40 PM on Thursday, November 24, 2016 after an extended illness. He was born on Saturday, June 17, 1933 in Morgan County, Indiana, to the late James Noble and Edith E. (McDaniel) Fleener.

Chet graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1951. Following high school graduation, Chet worked at Bridgeport Brass in Indianapolis in the finance department, while putting himself through college, earning his degree in public accounting. On February 12, 1954, Chet married the love of his life, Alice Jane (Mansfield) Fleener. The two spent their entire married life of nearly 62 years in Martinsville, where they raised a family and Chet ran a successful accounting business, James C. Fleener Public Accounting. He was also a longtime member of the Liberty Christian Church in Martinsville.

Chet took great pleasure in playing golf and of course, he loved to work with numbers and calculations. He was a humble man, who loved and adored his family and cherished time spent with them.

He will be deeply missed by his loving family and countless friends including his wife, Alice Fleener of Martinsville; daughter and son-in-law, Terri & Butch O’Neal of Martinsville; sister, Barbara Dean (husband, Bill) Poe of Martinsville; granddaughters, Brooke (husband, Alan) Acuff and Briana (husband, Jay) Fleck both of Martinsville and his three great grandchildren, Alexa & Brynlee Acuff and Eli Fleck.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, James Todd and Barry Fleener; three brothers, Ronnie, Donnie and Archie Fleener and two sisters, Joan Stewart and Betty Baugh.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, November 29th, 2016 from 4-7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, Nov. 30th from 10-11:00 a.m. at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center, Martinsville. Rev. Rocky Baire and Rev. Kevin Able will co-officiate a service celebrating Chet’s life on Wednesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home and he will be laid to rest in Liberty Cemetery in Martinsville.
