Frederick E. Reed, age 79, of Perry passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born in Boonville, New York on November 27, 1939, a son of the late Fay J. Reed and Elizabeth Marion Dickinson. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law; Archie (Lorma) Reed; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Karl (Evelyn) Frost and Elizabeth Marshall.
He was a graduate of Boonville Central School and Morrisville Ag and Technical Institute with an Applied Arts and Science degree in food processing technology. While attending Morrisville, he met and married his wife of 59 years, Nancy (Frost). Fred entered the food industry in 1961 as Quality Control Supervisor, for Curtice Brothers in Bergen, 1962 Field Department field man for snap beans and potatoes. 1964 South Dayton as field man for snap beans, tomatoes and maple products; New Jersey for asparagus. 1969 Leicester Plant field man. 1970 QA, Leicester. LeRoy QA supervisor. 1974 Leicester plant, Administrative Assistant retiring from now Seneca Foods in 2002 after 42 years in the Food Industry.
He was a member of the Perry First United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the choir and served on various committees. Fred joined the Perry Rotary in 1989 accomplishing perfect attendance. He was President from 2006-2007, received the Paul Harris Fellows Award in 2005 and 2015. He served on the Board of Directors for the Genesee Valley Rotary Camp since 2007. Fred was known as a kind, gentle man, he enjoyed music, golf (especially with friend Donald Butler), bowling, gardening and doing for others.
Along with his wife Nancy he is survived by children, Daniel (Corrinne) Reed of Chili, Michael (Patricia) Reed of Penfield, Joy (Nancy) Reed of Poughkeepsie; grandchildren, Kelsey, John, Brian, Jessica, Carolyn and Allison; sister, Andrea (Ed) McFadden of Utica; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Janet) Frost of Munnsville, New York; sisters-in-law, Melva (William) Durfee of Munnsville, and Carol Frost of Vernon, New York; grand-dogs, Jack and Honey; along with many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call from 2-6pm on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC. 98 North Main Street Perry, New York 14530.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 16th, at 2:00PM at the First United Methodist Church 35 Covington St. in Perry. He will be laid to rest in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Perry Center.
