Karen Zimmerman moved to Cedar,MI, sometime after birth of brother Kent. She graduated from Glen Lake High School,Class of 1959. Then she attended Northwestern Michigan College and worked at Cone Drive Gears.
She fell in love with the boy "across the street" and married him Sept. 1962 (still living) and had three children, being a stay at home mom.She had been very busy learning from the best(Fleis and Laskey families),her canning, baking, sewing and crotcheting skills.
Karen was also the devoted spouse of a U.S Army Reservist for 30 years, giving up when her husband was called up 1961 -1962 for the Berlin Wall and 1990-1991 for Desert Storm and Desert Shield.
She was also involved in many community activities.
Also she donated her time and talents to Holy Rosary Church as a founder with her cousin(distant)and dear friend for Holy Rosary Home and School Association, organizing school dances, bake sales and other fundraisers for Holy Rosary School. She was a sacristan and long time member of the church choir.Music was always a dear love of Karen's,playing piano and the organ up to her final days. Most of our clan (the Fleis/Flees family) has an interest in music, one way or other.
One of her fondiest fundraisers was the Holy Rosary Polka Fest, still going today.
