Clement C. Clements was the son of Captain Gabriel Clements (1745-1825) and Mary (Watts) Clements. His first wife was Leonelly Shaw. In the 1850 census, their children are listed as Margaret, 10; Daniel, 9; Mary [Mary Jane] 7; Wesley, 5; John, 3; Angus, 2; and Sarah, four months. Leonelly died before the 1860 census. In that record, Clement has twelve children, who are listed as Daniel G., 19; Mary J., 16; Westly T., 15; John J., 14; Angus, 13; Virginia [Sarah Virginia] 11; Rebecca, 10; Wm. W.[William Watts] 8; Christian, 6; Thomas J., 5; Andrew J., 4; and Gabriel C., 2.

In the 1870 census, Clement has a wife named Rebecca, age 47. His children are listed as John 22; Angus, 20; Watts, 18; Christiana, 16; Thomas, 13; Andrew, 12; and Gabriel, 10. Clement married Elizabeth Jane Jarrell on 2 Feb. 1871. In the 1880 census, their children are listed as Jasper [Jasper Floyd], 8; Cathran, 7; Mary [Mary Susanna] 5; Clinton, 2; and Annie, five months. Clement's son Thomas, 24, is also listed in this record.

According to First Families of South Georgia, Volume 2, Clements Family, Clement C. Clements died in 1903. That does not match census records. In 1900, Elizabeth J. Clements is a widow. The head of the household is her son Clinton Clements, age 22. Clinton's siblings are listed as Annie, 20; James, 17; and George, 15. In this record, Elizabeth is said to have had seven children, all living. The youngest child, George A. Clements, was born in October 1884. Clement C. Clements must have died between 1884 and June 1900, when the census was taken. His age in census records is 32 in 1850; 42 in 1860; 51 in 1870; and 62 in 1880. The best match to the inscription "Age 82" is 1818-1900.
