James V. "Tippy" Abbatiello, 92, of Rochester, formerly of Syracuse, passed away Saturday at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

He was born in Syracuse to the late Vincenzo and Ella (Atkinson) Abbatiello in 1926. He was a proud US Army Veteran of World War II serving in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star during his service. He was a maintenance supervisor at Allied Chemical Corp for many years, retiring in 1980.

James was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Gerda in 2015, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

He is survived by his daughter; Victoria Iannettone, of Rochester, son; David (Jill) Abbatiello, of Memphis, 4 grandchildren; Michael (Farrah) Iannettone, Christianne (Brandon) McComber, Andreanna (Antwon) Ragland, and Christine Abbatiello, 9 great grandchildren; Nicholas Iannettone, Nathan, Ryan and Morgan Elizabeth McComber, Carmen Renard Iannettone, Carmela and Giovanna Ragland and Quinn Iannettone and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am Thursday at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME. Entombment will follow in St Mary's Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, DeWitt. Family and friends may call from 9:00 to 10:30 am Thursday at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Avenue.
