Robert Mallory Gaddis, 73, formerly of Ellsworth, died Monday (Nov. 15, 2004) at his home in Bemidji, Minnesota.

He was born June 8, 1931 in Bloomington, the son of Robert W. and Leota Mallory Gaddis.

He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1949. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University. He was a paratrooper with the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne from January 1952 to January 1954.

He married Iva Smith on Dec. 26, 1952, in Ellsworth.

He retired from General Electric in August 1992 after 36 years. Following retirement they moved to Bemidji, Minn., in May 1993. He was an active outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Iva Gaddis of Bemidji; two daughters, Valerie (Tom) Eggers of Bloomington and Denise (Roger) Heerdt of Bloomington; a son, Robert "Denny" (Patty) Gaddis of LeRoy; two grandchildren, Melissa Safarik of Omaha, Nebraska and Gregory Gaddis of LeRoy and two sisters, Marilyn Schnuck of St. Louis and Eleanor Gaddis of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
