Steve A. Bennett passed from this life Tuesday, November 20, 2018, in Houston after enduring a long battle with COPD.

Steve was born September 1, 1951, in Galveston to Herman & Frances Bennett. He grew up in Galveston, attended public school, and graduated from Ball High School in 1969. Steve briefly attended Prairie View A&M University after high school graduation. Later, he worked for the Galveston Wharves as a Longshoreman and was a crewman on the Galveston Ferry. In 2001, he moved to Houston and began life there in construction until his retirement. During his retirement he found his passion was to help the individuals at After-Care and AA where he was well liked.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leo & Frank Bennett, and sister Rose Marie Bennett.

Those left to remember Steve are his devoted son, Andre Mickles (Farrah) of Houston; grandchildren, Dreneisha Mickles Handy, Andre Mickles, Jr., Arayna Mickles, Adam Mickles, Kaleb Gasery; a devoted aunt, Earlie "Mama" Evans of Galveston; Uncles, Clarence Bennett (Henda) of Berkeley, CA, Joe Bennett of Richmond, CA; Aunts, Gladys Morffet of San Francisco, CA, Laura Dean Esclovon of Oakland, CA; Sister-in-Law, Shirley Bennett of San Antonio; Nieces, Quentonia Bennett of Mableton, GA, Stacey Bennett-Dwyer (Denzil), Stephanie Bennett, Shanda Bennett all of Dallas; Cousins, Mary Ann Sandles (Esse) of Texas City, Leroy Gordon (Chandra), Matthew Gordon (Sharon) both of Houston; a devoted neighbor, Cindi Martinez of Houston; and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 1 at 9:00-10:00 AM with the service beginning at 10:00 AM at St. Augustine of Hippo, 141O-41st Street, Galveston, Texas 77550 with Reverend Robert Merrill officiating, with burial to follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston.

Pallbearers will be cousins, Bill Williams, Spencer Williams, Bernard Taylor, Ronnie Bossett, Hal Williams, Gregory Taylor and son Andre Mickles.

Steve will be missed by all who knew and loved him, but never forgotten.
