She was a member for over fifty years at Prospect Baptist Church in Mooresboro, N.C. Reba retired from 34 years of service at Cone Mills, Cliffside, N.C. After retirement, she was employed at Hamrick's of Gaffney, S.C. for over 15 years. At the age of 87, she decided she "had enough of working for 70+ years" and decided to permanently retire, but served as Treasurer at Prospect Baptist Church until her death. She was a avid reader who loved cooking, solving complicated circle-a-word puzzles, being a Mother and Grandmother, and serving her church. Her kindness, generosity, laughter, and sweet personality will be dearly missed. Reba had perfected the art of making savory homemade biscuits which were always requested and enjoyed by all her family members.
Reba is the daughter of Herbert Martin of Blacksburg, S.C. and Bleeka Adams Martin of Fort Mill, S.C. She is a 1945 graduate of Blacksburg High School in Blacksburg, S.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby "Possum" Barnes of Mooresboro, N.C., daughter Debra "Deb" Phillips of Gaffney, S.C., and grandson Timothy Edward "Tim" Phillips of Gaffney, S.C., three brothers, Price LeRoy "Roy" Martin of Gaffney, William "Chub" Martin, Gene Martin, and a sister, Frances White.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Barnes Golden of Charleston, S.C. and Lisa Barnes of Chicago, Il., three sisters, Ila "Bruce" Miller of Gaffney, Ruth Malone of Shelby, N.C., and Linda Cavney of Gaffney, S.C. and son-in-law Dennis "Dink" Phillips of Gaffney, S.C. She has four grandchildren, Tyler Moore and Drake Moore of Swansboro, N.C. and Grayson Golden and William Golden of Charleston, S.C., one great-grandson Caleb Phillips of Gaffney, S.C.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 at Prospect Baptist Church, 2610 Prospect Church Rd, Mooresboro, N.C. at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. prior to the funeral. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Molly's Mission or the Building Fund at Prospect Baptist Church, 2610 Prospect Church Rd, Mooresboro, N.C. 28114.
