Hazel D. Hvarven, 96, of rural Mount Pleasant, Iowa, formerly of Macomb, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1993, at her residence.

Born Dec. 21, 1896, in Golden to James William and Hattie Haulk Knight, she married Gustof Arnold Hvarven on May 21, 1918, in Cresskill, N.J. He died Dec. 8, 1967. She also was preceded in death by two sons, William O. Hvarven and an infant son; one brother; one sister; and two half sisters.

Surviving are two sons, Claire Varven of Lakewood, Calif., and Dale Hvarven of Macomb; one daughter, Dorothy Settles of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; and one half sister, Ina Wilson of Rushville.

She lived in Galesburg, Macomb and California before moving to Mount Pleasant to live with her daughter.

She attended Brown's Business College in Galesburg and was a stenographer in Washington, D.C., during World War I.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb.
