Marilyn Dunford Mooney
1928 - 2018

Early Life: Marilyn was born August 31, 1928, in Provo, Utah, to Judge William Stanley Dunford and Zina Patterson Dunford. She attended elementary and secondary school in Provo.
Life’s Work | Service | Interests: Marilyn graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in education. On August 31, 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Norman Mooney, on her 20th birthday in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they lived, worked, played and raised their six children. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1998, a couple of years before Norman passed away. Marilyn taught kindergarten in the Provo School District for 32 years. A child once drew a picture of her and labeled it: “This is Mrs. Mooney and she loves kids.” She had a reverence for the sanctity of a child’s mind. Marilyn was a member of the Orchard First Ward and served in many positions. She loved being nursery music leader the best. She cherished that calling and cried when she was released. She took hundreds of pictures of family festivities and scrapbooked every event. She enjoyed the game Scrabble but was notoriously competitive. Her home was always decorated for each holiday with a multitude of art she and Norman crafted. Marilyn was an avid reader, sometimes reading multiple books simultaneously. Her love of books was passed on to her family and a book club was organized with her sisters, daughters, granddaughters and friends. Marilyn and her sisters visited every day at their “Pepsi Party” where they brought each other up to date on current events and family happenings. Her tradition of “Tuesday Lunch” where Sunday dinner leftovers were served was regularly attended by her sisters, children, nieces, grandchildren and grandnieces. Marilyn hosted a party on most holidays. Her Fourth of July party always had more than 70 family members attending. This year it was attended by 96. Marilyn loved America and was passionately patriotic. Marilyn Dunford Mooney passed away November 26, 2018, after a life full of love and service. She was 90 year old.
Family Message: "She will be missed. Marilyn has left us a great legacy. Because she lived her life in righteousness, we look to her to be our guardian angel."
