Ernest (Ernie) Sims, 91, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018 in College Station surrounded by family, as he has always loved.

Ernie was born on June 16, 1927 in the Peach Creek Community, in south Brazos County, Texas. He married the love of his life Edelweiss Otillie Kehlenbrink of Kurten, Texas. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage and 4 children.

Ernie was a lifelong resident of Brazos County, where he contributed to the growth and development of our area. He was a prominent building contractor in our community, building many homes, offices and professional buildings. He also worked for Texas A&M and Brazos County as Senior building inspector, overseeing such structures as the TAMU Veterinary School, Zachary Engineering building, George Bush Library, Brazos County Expo Center and the Judicial buildings to name a few.

Ernie was a man of faith; he was instrumental as a founding member of Faith United Church of Christ on South College Avenue and later at the current location in Austin's Colony. He truly was a man of giving from his heart to others. As one of the founders of Habitat For Humanity in our community he volunteered countless hours helping others to be able to have adequate housing. As a Veteran of the United States Military, Ernie also served our country in the Air Force and Merchant Marines.

With everything he did in our community he always managed to find time for fishing. He enjoyed fishing the Trinity River, Aransas Pass and of course he had a boat at every well-hidden fishing hole he could frequent. Although he loved fishing; he loved his family most. He was a joy to his family, teaching them unconditional love and how to embrace life. He was preceded in death by his wife Edelweiss, his son Mark, his parents Sidney and Rena Syms and his 7 siblings: Roger, William, Lucille, Albert, Edna, J.T.,and Ora May.

Ernest Sims is survived by his sons; his daughte; his 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. He had the gift of making everyone feel like family. Many will remember his life legacy. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 16th at 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Center in Bryan. Funeral services will be on Wednesday October 17, 2018 at 10:30 am also at Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Center 3001 S. College Ave., in Bryan.
