Dennis Franklin Burgess, age 80, of Ellenboro, NC, died Friday, November 23, 2018, at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Born January 29, 1938, in Rutherford County, son of the late Joseph Dennis "Joe" Burgess (1916–2005) and Bessie Davis Burgess (1917–2007).

A graduate of Tri-High School; served as a deputy sheriff for the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department for many years; owned and operated Burgess Wrecker Service and Garage for over forty years; was a member of High Shoal Baptist Church; and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Those left to cherish his memory, include his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Diane Burgess; daughters, Denise Burgess Waters (David) and Kimberly Ledford; sons, Joey Burgess and Jeffery Burgess; sister, Gwendolyn JoAnn Burgess Jenkins; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Also preceded in death by a brother, James "David" Burgess (1950–2013).

The funeral service was conducted at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at High Shoal Baptist Church with Rev. John Godfrey and Rev. David Bradley officiating; interment in the church cemetery.

The family received friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Monday, at the funeral home.

Memorial donations could be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, Forest City, NC.
