Florence Marie Remington Waetzig, 94, died Saturday, August 8, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after suffering a stroke at her home on Saturday, August 1st. She was the oldest of 12 children born to Noble and Esther Remington on December 22, 1914, and lived in the Carbondale area until moving to Pioneer Ridge Assisted Living in Lawrence five years ago.

Marie was preceded in death by her infant son, Gary Dean Waetzig, her husband Marion A. Waetzig, as well as brothers, Marvin and Raymond Remington and sisters, Idell Piper, Pearl Moore and Lucille Addington.

Survivors include two daughters, Billie Jean Crow, Topeka, and Wanda (Sam) Bilsing, Lawrence; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; also surviving are sisters, Helen Boaz, Jean Gish, Erma Trowbridge and Hazel Mae Owens; brothers, Bob (Viola) Remington and Don (Anita) Remington, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Waetzig was cremated and burial of cremains will be at a later date in the Carbondale Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials in Marie's name to the charity of the donor's choice. Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys is in charge of arrangements.
