Marshfield - Margaret A. Mayer, 88, Marshfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Marshfield Medical Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Keith Kitzhaber and Deacon Ray Draeger officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Joe Luchterhand, Dana Mayer, Eric Mayer, Bob Griesbach, Derek Weyer, Mark Paasch and Jesse Rabehl. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, and Sacred Heart Parish Council of Catholic Women will recite the rosary at 7:00 pm. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 am until service time on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Margaret was born on May 18, 1930 in Marshfield, the daughter of Wenzel and Clementine (Weiler) Schill. She was a graduate of Auburndale High School and Wood County Normal Teachers College. She later attended the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. She was united in marriage to Jerome E. Mayer on February 26, 1952 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Auburndale. They celebrated 44 years of marriage.

Margaret taught school a total of 26 years in her teaching career, beginning in a one room school and finishing at St. John's Parochial School in Marshfield. Margaret and Jerome farmed 35 years in Chili, Town of Fremont, Clark County, where they raised their 11 children. The farm remains in the family with their oldest son Allen, as owner, operating along with his son, Dana and nephew, Bob Griesbach.

Margaret was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was always positive, understanding, compassionate and accepting to all. She was a C.C.D. teacher and a 4-H Leader. She taught all of her daughters how to crotchet and she sewed as well.

She is lovingly survived by 11 children, Susan (Lynn) Luchterhand of Granton, Allen (Terri) Mayer of Chili, Anthony "Tony" (Mary Jo Mayer) Mayer of Chili, Richard Mayer of Saxon, Sally (Mike) Griesbach of Chili, Shirley (Terry) Weyer of Loyal, Bob (Cheryl) Mayer, Sheila Paasch, Sara (Shane Sibley) Mayer, Jerome Jr. (Shelly Hughes) Mayer, and Shari (Jerry) Rabehl, all of Marshfield. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She is further survived by brothers and sisters, Katherine Bathke, Wisconsin Rapids, Mary (Harvey) Pongratz of Minocqua, Matt Schill of Wisconsin Rapids, and Jerome (Betty Joch) Schill of Auburndale, and sisters-in-law, Beatrice Schill of Wisconsin Rapids, Laura Schill of Vesper, Ida Unertl of Theresa and Irene Haumschild of Handover, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jerome who died on May 10, 1996, brothers, Fred, Jack and Ted Schill and a sister, Joan Tremmel.
