She was born April 26, 1916, in Elkton, Virginia, and was a daughter of the late Euell Stephen and Emily Etta Dean Hensley.
Laura was a seamstress at Aileen Manufacturing in New Market. Prior to her marriage to Howard Rhodes in 1945 she was employed at the American Viscose rayon plant in Front Royal. She was a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church. She loved gardening, hunting and being outdoors. She loved her children and grandchildren.
Her husband, Howard "Dusty" Wilson Rhodes, preceded her in death on August 12, 1953 in Harrisonburg.
Surviving are two daughters, Eileen Rhodes and Deborah Rhodes Beall, both of Rockingham; three sons, Lewis Hensley, Ronnie Rhodes and Billy Rhodes, all of Rockingham; grandchildren, Tracy Suters and husband, Joey, of Rockingham, Chad Rhodes of Rockingham, Chris Rhodes of Winchester, Eleanor Sue Sutton and husband, Don, of Pennsylvania, Lewis Arnold Hensley Jr., Ronald Lee Hensley; a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; close friends, Kim and Allen Kesner of West Virginia; her dog, Jack; her kitten, Boo-Boo; and her special horse Princess Chillie.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Kevin Beall, sisters, Flossie Rogers, Annie Reid, Mabel Miller, brothers, Nicholas Hensley and Wilson Hensley.
Burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
There will be no services at Grandle Funeral Home. Friends may call anytime at Laura's residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Grandle Funeral Home, P.O. Box 114, Broadway, VA 22815, to offset funeral expenses.
