"Joy was born July 8, 1947 in Santa Anna to Edward and Maggie (Wells) Leonard. She attended Coleman High School and married Bob Gillespie in Coleman on August 2, 1963. They moved to Clyde from Abilene in 1970. She had worked for Estes Real Estate, Peoples State Bank and the Callahan County Water District. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clyde.
"She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert W. (Bob) Gillespie of Clyde; daughter Robin Whittington and husband Doug of Clyde; two brothers, James Leonard of Brownwood and Carl Leonard of Canyon; sister Cathy Dutton of Brownwood; three grandchildren, Hannah Whittington, Mikayla Whittington and Robert Whittington.
"Joy was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Allen and Lonnie Leonard and a sister Carolyn McGee.
"In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Gideons or the American Cancer Society."
