He was born January 7, 1930 in the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee to a tobacco farming family. As a young boy, he loved to ramble through the woods as he hunted and fished with his brothers. He joined the Air Force at the young age of sixteen and continued his military service with the California Air National Guard in Ontario, CA. He obtained the rank of Master Sergeant and finished his lengthy career as a civil servant at Alvin Callender Field, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Belle Chasse, LA. His professional life was always one of service to his country and he was very proud to be known as an Air Force veteran.
Upon retiring, he and his wife, Iris Fay (McCain), moved to their country home in Hanceville, Ala. He became an avid gardener, pouring over agricultural guides until his vegetable gardens became a work of art. He was a Southern Baptist, Free Mason and a Zamora Shriner. He spent many volunteer days helping to transport sick children through the state of Alabama and on their way to a Shriner's hospital.
